Makeup can be expensive. Makeup can be difficult to use. Makeup can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Did you know, though, that there are natural but weird makeup hacks that just might make your makeup life easier? Learn about them here!
Natural but weird makeup hacks
1. Use Vaseline or Oils to Remove Makeup
Petroleum jelly (Vaseline), olive oil, coconut oil, baby oil, or even raw milk can be used to remove eye makeup. This seems weird! But, it works. My personal favorite is using the cocoa butter Vaseline to remove my eye liner, eye shadow, and mascara. The oil based jelly takes the makeup right off with ease. No need to rub your eyes raw or worry about any stinging. The cocoa butter provides the perfect amount of moisture that is also known to reduce the look of aging. This is a weird makeup hack, but it totally works. Try it out!
Hint, you can also use Vaseline as a substitute for lip gloss. Vaseline also is an awesome conditioner for eyelashes. You can just pretty much use Vaseline for anything makeup related.
2. Create Your Own Natural Makeup
Makeup is expensive. I mentioned this earlier. One way to avoid this, is to create your own natural makeup! This will likely be less expensive and also more natural! Below are some natural makeup recipes.
a. Make your own natural powder foundation.
Add small amounts of ingredients to a base of arrowroot powder or corstarch until the color matches your skin tone. Ingredients include cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, bentonite clay, and French green clay. Mix amounts until desired color is reached. Then, apply with a press brush in a circular motion.
b. Make your own natural bronzer.
Similar to making your own natural powder foundation, mix ingredients into a cornstarch or arrowroot powder until you reach a color a tad bit darker than your skin tone (and than your natural powder foundation). Ingredients include cocoa powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Apply the bronzer just under your cheek bones. Blend it upwards to the cheecks. Lightly apply the bronzer along your temple and at the top of forehead. Do not overdo the bronzer. Remember, you are going for an all natural look.
c. Use activated charcoal as natural eyeliner.
Use a liner brush to apply the charcoal. Apply to the lash line as you wish.
d. Create your own natural eye shadows.
You can also mix and match ingredients to make your own natural eye shadows out of groceries straight from your kitchen cabinet. Continue to follow the arrowroot powder or cornstarch base. Mix ingredients until you reach your desired colors from a series of possible additives including shea butter, cocoa powder, nutmeg, beet powder, tumeric, and all spice. Make sure that you are not allergic to any of these spices before applying to your skin (especially the sensitive places of your face)! Remember, shea butter is very creamy and moisturizing!
e. Create your own natural mascara:
You can create your own natural mascara using a very crafty recipe. You will first need a double boiler. Add the ingredients to the double boiler to create the natural mascara. Add 3/4 tsp of beeswax, 1/2 tsp of coconut oil, 1/2 tsp of coconut oil, 2 tsp of aloe vera gel, and 1 capsule of activated charcoal. Heat gently over a very low heat until all of the ingredients are mixed. You may use a small funnel to get the mixture into a mascara tube that you already have (just clean it out first)!
3. Use an Ice Cube to Reduce Redness and Close Pores
If you have a pimple or a blemish, you can take an ice cube to it to reduce redness and cool the spot down. It will also even help reduce swelling. Prior to applying makeup, use an ice cube wrapped in a rag or a paper towel and apply it to the spot. It will be easier to cover the spot with your concealer if you have treated the swelling and redness first. Rubbing an ice cube all over your face prior to applying makeup will also shrink your pores and help your makeup last longer after application.
4. Use Apple Cider and Vinegar for Your Complexion
Apple cider and vinegar can be applied to your face to reduce redness and blemishes, treat and/or prevent acne, and correct hyperpigmentation. It is an awesome natural skin toner!
5. Eggs for the Oily Face or Puffy Eyes
It might be messy, but you can use raw eggs for many weird beauty hacks. If you have oily skin, you can create an egg-white mask out of your raw eggs to apply to your face. This will greatly help treat your oily skin. Use this weekly or monthly. when you apply your makeup, you will defiinitely be able to notice the decrease in oil. Also, egg whites can be applied under your eyes (at the bags of your eyes) and left to dry. This hack has been known to remove the puffiness under your eyes.
6. Take Vitamins. Drink Plenty of Water. Eat a Healthy Diet.
These may not be what you think of when you think of weird makeup hacks to try. But, to avoid even having to cake on makeup- take your natural vitamins, drink lots and lots of water, and eat a healthy and well-rounded diet. Your skin will love you for it. And nothing gets more natural than these tips. Be careful in the sun. You do not want to damage your skin by spending too much natural time in the sun, but if you happen to get burnt use natural aloe vera as the sunburn remedy.
These are just a few natural makeup hacks that you might try. Some of them seem a little weird, maybe a little sketchy or messy, but they are known to really work! Try them out and let others know. You just may have found your new beauty trick. Now, go get your beauty sleep.
